THE U-Z TEAM (Second XI)

The U-Z SECOND XI

1. Geoff Webber - Originally from New Zealand, left handed opening bat and useful trundler who performed well for the Second between 2010 and 2014. Recorded two centuries in his first season against Langley Manor and Pylewell Park. Best bowling figures of 4-20 versus Hyde in 2014.

2. Suji Wickramasinghe - Right handed batsman and spinner who played a handful of games for the Second XI in 2018, taking six wickets and scoring 60 runs, before returning mid-season to Burridge where he topped the HCL Division One batting averages in 2019.

3. Chris Warde - Prolific schoolboy batsman who appeared for Lymington in a couple of spells between 2001 and 2008. Although his SPCL stats rarely lived up to his reputation, he did enjoy one of the more spectacular Cross Solent League debuts in 2001when he dismissed Calmore's overseas player first ball of the match and then went on to score a matchwinning century.

4. Charlie Warren - Oxford University student who only played a handful of times for Lymington in 2000, top scoring with 76 against OTs & Romsey. A year later the Oxford Blue was hitting the winning runs in the annual varsity match.

5. Glenn Willoughby - Hard hitting batsman who played some important innings for the Second and Third XIs, none more so than his matchwinning 68 against Portsmouth & Southsea in 2017. Injury ended his playing days, now a highly qualified coach.

6. Ross Whyte (w/k) - Attacking batsman and seam bowler who joined Lymington in 2018. Scored 313 runs for the Second XI in his first season with a best of 68 against Hambledon. On his day could be a very lively strike bowler. Brilliant fielder who pulled off some stunning catches. Might have to keep wicket in this line-up.

7. Mike West - All rounder signed from Bramshaw in 2002. Took 31 wickets for the First XI over three summers including a best of 5-40 against OTs & Romsey in his first season and a highest score of 28 against Gosport a year later.

8. Sam Westcott - Young off-spinner from Blandford who played for the First XI in 2005. Best bowling figures of 2-30 against Hungerford.

9. Dale Warren - Left arm pace bowler who represented Hampshire colts and made his Southern League debut at just 15. Best recorded figures of 4-16 against Gosport in 1984.

10. George Willis - Promising young seam bowler from the Isle of White who took a dozen wickets in as many First and Second XI matches in 2018. Returned to Ventnor last season and took 17 SPCL wickets.

11. Chris Whitehouse - Opening bowler and part of the Second XI team who finished top of the New Forest League in 1977. Took 5-35 against Bramshaw in that season and in 1981 was elected as First XI skipper. Perhaps best known as the highly successful manager of the Lymington Colts team of the early 1980s that produced players such as David Coles, Clive Kitcher and Neil Perrett, not to mention Chris' own son Glenn who tragically died at just 16 years of age in September 1983. A hugely promising fast bowler, Glenn had taken 19 wickets for the Second XI in the 1983 season.

Summary: Good balanced team with some exciting batsmen in that middle order.
